The “No more IP camera allowed” error shows up when you try to connect an IP camera via a PoE switch to a Hikvivion PoE NVR (with built-in PoE switch). If you connect the IP camera straight to the built-in PoE switch at the back of the Hikvision NVR, the NVR detects the camera and populates the IP address on the system. The camera shows up fine on the screen.
However, in some cases, if you connect the same IP camera to an external PoE switch and then you try to add the camera on the Hikvision NVR via the local interface, you may get the error message “no more IP camera allowed”. There are a few reasons why this issue happens. Read this guide to fix the error quickly.
How to fix the “No more IP camera allowed” on a Hikvision NVR
The issue is related to the Plug and Play function of the Hikvision NVR, when you connect the IP camera straight to the PoE NVR the plug and play function works and is able to properly add the camera on the NVR. But this feature is not supported if you try to add the same camera connected to an external PoE switch. The plug and play function doesn’t add the camera automatically.
You need to change the channel from Plug and Play (auto) to Manual and after that add the camera’s IP address manually. First of all, run the SADP tool on your laptop and find out the IP address of the camera, assign a static IP address to the camera matching your local network (where the external PoE switch is located). Make sure to set the right gateway and subnet mask.
Then you have to go to the Camera Management section and click Custom Adding. There you can manually type the static IP address of the camera, the username and the password of the camera. Click Add and the camera will show up, no longer saying “no more IP cameras allowed”.

- Make sure the NVR is updated to the latest firmware.
- Make sure the IP camera is compatible with NVR. The resolution has to be supported by the machine.
- Also this “no camera allowed” Hikvision error message may show up if the total bitrate of the IP cameras exceeds the limit designed by the manufacturer.
– For example, if you have a 16 channel Hikvision NVR and you’ve added 10 cameras with 10 Mbps bitrate for each camera and when you add the 11th camera the NVR won’t add it, because the NVR is struggling to handle the current bitrate. Go to the Configuration > Video & Audio and make sure the max Bitrate is set up properly. The total bitrate of all the IP cameras has to be less than the incoming bandwidth specified by the manufacturer.
When you are trying to have access to a Hikvision IP camera or DVR/NVR you’ll stumble upon the message: “Please click here to download and install the plug-in. Close the browser when installing the plugin”. This plugin needs to be installed in order to view your Hikvision CCTV system.
The issue is that even if you install the plugin the message will still show up and bother you every time you need to access your Hikvision IP camera/NVR/DVR. The plugin is installed but looks like something went wrong because the message keeps asking to install the plug-in again and again: “close the browser when installing the plug-in”.
This issue plug-in with the Hikvision DVRs, NVRs, and IP cameras is related to the compatibility mode on Internet Explorer (IE). All you have to do is to configure IE and the error will go away.

How to fix: “Please click here to download and install the plug-in”
The web component plugin is used by the Hikvsion to show the live image of the cameras and to playback as well. If you don’t install it correctly, you can see the cameras (image fail) and you can’t playback either. Other functions may be disabled such as when you save the settings, they’ll not be applied.
Step 1. Go to the Tools section of the IE and click Compatibility View Settings. (If you don’t see the Tools tab on the top, click the ALT key on the keyboard and it will show up).

Step 2. On the next window the recorder’s IP address (or the ddns) and click Add. The same procedure is you have an IP camera or an NVR.

Step 3. Go again to the Tools tab and this time click Internet Options. Step 4. Open up the Security Tab and click on Trusted sites.
Step 5. Type the IP address of the device and click Add. Make sure the “Require server verification” box is unchecked.
When these two steps are completed the aforementioned issue will be solved permanently. Next time you open up Internet Explorer and try to see the cameras, you won’t see the annoying message “Please click here to download and install the plug-in”.
If for some reason you’re asked again to install the plugin, do the following:
Hikvision No Plugin Detected Mac
- Restart your laptop of computer
- Update the firmware on the recorder (NVR, DVR) or the IP camera. Some Hikvison units run an updated firmware that doesn’t allow the plug-in to be installed correctly.
- Uninstall any remnant Hikvision plugins you may have installed previously. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program and remove from the application list the one called “webcomponents”. That’s the name for the Hikvsion plugin. Have it uninstalled and go through the previous steps to install the plugin again.
